On April 4-6, 2017 an international scientific forum “Comparison of Schengen borders: experience of Slovakia/Ukraine and Norway/Russia” took place as part of the project implemented under the grant agreement № CBC 01018 “Sharing know-how for better management of the Schengen border between Slovakia/Ukraine and Norway/Russia”, supported and financed by the Norwegian Financial Mechanism and the state budget of the Slovak Republic. The event was held at the Arctic University of Norway in Kirkenes
The forum was attended by experts from Norway, Russia, Slovakia and Ukraine. Uzhhorod National University was represented by project experts, associate professors of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration of the Faculty of Social Sciences Mykhailo Zan and Viktor Petretskyi.
During the conference, experts raised some important issues of Schengen border crossing between Ukraine – Slovakia and Norway – Russia. In particular, they talked about the role of the Barents Euro-Arctic Region in the context of the Norwegian-Russian border area and new trends in the development of Norwegian-Russian and Ukrainian-Slovak Schengen area.
The scholars also presented the results of sociological research conducted at check points. Uzhhorod scientists presented the results of public opinion survey of the people living in border areas of Slovakia and Ukraine. Special attention was paid to the issue of the owners of cars with foreign registration. Scientific projects and experience of international cooperation of Uzhhorod National University were also presented at the forum.
